Newborn Sleeping Arrangements

<p>Our little man is due at the end of April but will be spending some time at the hospital before we are able to bring him home. However, once he is home I wanted to hear some recommendations for the best place for him to sleep. Obviously, we will have a bassinet in our room but I am not sure if that is the best for him. A friend of my who has a little one with Down Syndrome said she used the Nap Nanny so her son could sleep more upright as they have less muscle tone. I know that can be true for our little ones with Wolf-Hirschhorn so I wanted to see what other parents found to be the best sleep arrangements for the newborns with WHS. Anything else out on the market you found to be beneficial for the little ones?</p>

When Riley was born, the nap nanny was not out yet so she was in a bassinet in our room. Due to reflux, we had to prop one end of the mattress up but she always slid down to the bottom. By the time she was a year, we got the nap nanny and she did awesome it in. However, she was bigger than so she fit in it better. Now we also have a 9 month old and when he was a newborn, at 7 1/2 lbs, he was too small for the nap nanny, he looked awful in it. But we bought the Fisher Price Rock n’ play sleeper, it is awesome!! I would definitely recommend going with that instead! I wish it was out when Riley was a newborn, it would have been perfect for her. It still props the baby up, but it much more supportive so they aren’t falling over to the side, like in the nap nanny.

we use the arms reach mini co-sleeper that attaches to the side of your bed. it has attachable feet risers so you can raise/lower each side if you like. Ansel is 10 months and it’s still perfect!

We have a nap nanny. I think starting weight for it is 8 lb. It’s been difficult to use because of Ava’s low muscle tone and small size. She’s 9 lb 5 oz right now and has napped in it a couple of times and slept in it over night twice. It really hasn’t help with reflux issues. A DS baby would probably fit in it better because they are much bigger babies. We bought a new pack-n-play with the newborn bassinet inset. Ava slept in the bassinet portion for several months and now (she’s nearly 6 mo old) she sleeps in the upper flat portion. I have it stationed right next to my bedside and it’s very convenient.

I really like the co-sleeper too! My little one’s still using it at 9.5 months. It’s great for us. Also helped us catch the one seizure that she had.

My little Arin actually sleeps in her swing believe it or not. The doctor is all for it as it keeps her slightly elevated for the reflux (even though she has had the neisson) and any mucus drainiage that she may have as she is a silent aspirator. It also prevents her from rolling around and pulling out her g tube or getting tangled in her oxygen tubing in her sleep. Arin has to be on oxygen at night due to a sleep apnea problem. Do what works best for you and your little one.
