These six words are often stated in this household. Unfortunately, it’s just the way things are. I don’t like telling my children that it’s not fair, but they will have to deal with it – especially when it comes to parenting and trying to be consistent with each and every child. However, it happens to […]

Last week I had a moment that caught me by surprise; one of those times where your mind goes completely blank, the scenery around you freezes and a single point of focus consumes your every thought. Every Wednesday I try to take the kids over to my Mom’s house for dinner to hang out with […]

About this time last year, I made quite an extensive list of the developmental milestones that Kendall had reached at the ripe age of 5. As we well know, all of our children are quite different and each one has their own way of being who they are. After reviewing this list again 12 months […]

Some time ago, I wrote an article about our children and what siblings mean to them across all phases of their growth and development. There is no question that today, Kendall has developed more quickly due to the presence and interaction that her siblings provide her on a daily basis. Some of the activity she’s […]

As part of the history in tracking Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome kids and their accomplishments, I wanted to make it a point to document some things about Kendall for us to look back on at some point, but also to give other parents an idea of what kids are doing at certain ages. We realize that all […]

It’s been a while since I’ve written and I’ve got a few things that have been on my mind. The first one pertains to what I refer to as the “widening of the gap” and the second has to do with Kendall turning 5 (7/18/12). I’ll address Kendall and her accomplishments to date in my […]

In early April, the Schulte’s and O’Brien’s arranged a meet up to visit and get to know each other; but more importantly, get to meet Kendall and Elsa. We decided to collectively write a post about our feelings of the past and future. Here is our story… Looking forward Meeting Kendall, for us, was like […]

I was sifting through video and image files and randomly clicked on a date that had a few videos that I completely forgot about. On 8/17/07 (my birthday), I video taped Kendall for no particular reason. They are very short videos, but thought that it would be good for other new mothers to see her […]

One of the most beneficial things we can do as a group is help each other on tips and tricks around being a parent of a wolf-hirschhorn child. For us, one of the scariest things that we faced with Kendall is wondering how to effectively care for her feeding tube and Mic-key button. So, we […]

I’ve pondered this particular topic for quite some time and I always wondered how politically correct I would be in broaching on such an article. However, it came to light today so I decided to talk about it. We have 3 little ones in the house under 6 years old, with Kendall being the middle […]

I love practical jokes. So does Kendall and she likes them even more when they are played on her.

It’s amazing how much our kids can do if we just test them. Every day I ask Kendall to do something new and she almost always knows what I’m talking about.

Kendall’s Growing Up

September 11, 2011 by

Nothing really new, but a few neat pictures of Kendall. We went for a bike ride Downtown Chicago last weekend and I caught some pictures of Kendall and after looking at them, I realized that she’s starting to turn into a little girl. She’s no longer the baby or the toddler anymore. It’s both sad […]

In our subdivision, we have this awesome pool and we’ve rigged up enough flotation devices that allow her to roam free around the pool. She can get her bicycle kicks going and has figured out how to maneuver herself in whatever direction she chooses. We’re hoping this gets her running pretty soon. We’ll see!

Kendall Turns 4

July 18, 2011 by

Today, Kendall turned 4 years old. Clearly, we had no idea what we in for on July 18th, 2007. We can say with complete conviction that things are so much easier now than they have been since she’s been born.

I’ve been delinquent in posting the newest videos of Kendall and am finally getting to it. She continues to dance every time she hears music. She also gets into these moods where all she wants to do is laugh. Oh yeah, she also figured out how to snap her fingers!

As we all know, kids are really inquisitive and perceptive. They are also very honest and pure; always asking interesting questions. My son, Carsen, asked an interesting question today: “is Cailen smarter than Kendall?”. Cathy and I looked at each other and started laughing. No idea why we found this funny, but I guess it […]

What seemed like a long time ago was just a few months. I posted the Top 10 Words and since then, Kendall has picked up a few more. Slowly, but surely we’re getting there with her speech. We still have a number of sounds to work on, but overall, she is responding well to verbal communications.

Easter with Kendall

April 25, 2011 by

Kendall has already started understanding the whole concept of “hoarding” and gathering things (mostly household utensils and Tupperware), so this year we hoped that the easter hunting would click in. Although she didn’t quite get to any of the hidden items before her siblings, she thought it would be easier to just take what they collected and call it her own.

Kendall can walk, and has been working on her brisk walk as of late. She can’t quite run, but we put her to the test this evening by letting gravity take its course. Our backyard slopes at quite a step angle, so we gave her a nudge and watched her go. For developmental check marks, we can now say that she runs…downhill!

Maybe it’s not the case that Kendall isn’t quite understanding the whole princess concept yet, but we can enjoy it from our end on occasion. For instance, just the other day, Cathy suited up Kendall in a nice new outfit that her little sister got for her birthday.

The Seizure

Up to this point, we’ve been fairly fortunate with Kendall and seizures. In fact, her seizure activity had been limited to a slight loss of balance and a few seconds of regaining her whereabouts. At least until last weekend…

Three years ago, I wondered if my daughter Kendall would talk at all. Well, she talks, and actually, it’s hard to get her to be quiet! Some of what she says doesn’t make much sense, but some of what she says has quite a bit of meaning. At the ripe age of 3 1/2, here are the Top 10 words she uses on a daily basis:

Kendall being Kendall
