March 14 was a remarkable day in our lives. My big sister Lisa turned 60, and I turned 55. It’s hard to believe that so many years have flown by, and we now have arrived at such a milestone birthday for her. We celebrated the day in style with a trip to Buca di Peppo, where many of our siblings, in-laws, nieces, and nephews joined us for dinner and birthday cake. We then all got together again as a family on the 18th to attend our niece’s wedding. Then Lisa and I spent the entire day together on the 19th doing all her favorite activities. It was a whirlwind week for her, one that she enjoyed very much.
Lisa continues to remain in excellent health, having recovered remarkably well from kidney cancer and a kidney nephrectomy in 2018. And even though she is blind, she still has days where her one slightly good eye still manages to work a little. She demonstrates this by getting herself up off the couch and venturing a few steps out into the living room on her own. She doesn’t get very far, but far enough that we are able to know she’s not in total darkness. That is very heartening for us. And yesterday at Publix, she was able to make out the person standing in front of her bagging her groceries, well enough that she struck up a conversation with him, just like the Lisa of old. You certainly can’t do that if you can’t see the person at all. Granted, not all days are that good for her when it comes to her vision, but when she does have good days like those, it really makes me happy. Lisa continues to be joyful, loving, and thoughtful, and spreads sunshine everywhere she goes. The most amazing thing I can say about her is that it is a privilege to care for her, because if the roles were reversed, I have no doubt she would do the same for me.
Please enjoy these photos. We hope everyone has a great summer!

Happy 60th Birthday Lisa !!!
Michael thank you so much for sharing with us. It warms my heart to see your love for your sister and her love for you
I am Mom to our daughter Olivia who is 25 years old. She is the youngest of our five kids and we adopted her when we were in our 40’s. So I often worry about how she will do when me and my husband pass on. So it gives me hope abd peace to see your journey.
God Bless you !!!
