Julia Donaldson’s ‘Room on the Broom’ is a wonderful children’s book about friendship overcoming adversity and so this Halloween my beautiful grand daughter Grace is dressed as the witch from that story surrounded by the animal toys that fill her nursery. No child could be more loved. Grace has a close and fiercely supportive family who are all on a very steep learning curve, not just about the WHS condition but about the lack of hope and faith among the professionals who are there to support us. We stick together as a family and fight her corner every time there is cause. Grace is very small and a little behind other babies but she enjoys stories and company, especially that of other babies. We are expecting a sister for her at Christmas time and are all very excited.

They will grow and learn together, they will share toys and tears and family days out and high days and holidays and they will each have a unique experience in their growing up in a household where WHS exists…not because of the problems but because there is friendship overcoming adversity among the WHS families, every day I learn more about how people cope and the true love and devotion that exists in this world.

Our family has found a bigger family than we ever dreamed of and we are grateful to you all for your sharing your stories with us, your advice, your comfort and the ‘Room on the Broom’ you have all offered to us as we make our journey.

I’m having trouble finding the baby 🙂 All I see are stuffed animals and a DOLL!

Gracie has changed so much in a year. She is fortunate to have extended family involved in her life. Each one matters. We have a relatively small extended family. Rochelle worked her magic on everyone. It sounds like Grace uses similar spells.
