It has been a few months since I last posted. So here’s a quick update on how we are and where we’ve been…

Mia will be 21 months old in a week or so, she weighs about 14 lb and is generally doing great. We did have to spend a night in Intensive Care last month following a prolonged (2 hr) seizure and subsequent intubation but, as ever, she bounced back quickly and was home a couple of days later. Her meds were upped to 2ml of Nitrazepam and 1.5ml of Keppra twice daily and she seems to tolerate this well with no apparent side effects.

In August we had a great week’s holiday in France with friends and their two boys. Mia had lots of fun playing in the pool – it was lovely to watch her interact with the other kids and really fascinating to see how she brings out their nurturing side.

Mia continues to eat really well and now only gets two milk feeds a day. She still struggles a bit with the whole hand-to-mouth thing, but we’re working on it and know it will come if and when the time is right. She has 5 teeth which she can use to chew (kinda), but they don’t look to have moved much since popping through a couple of months ago. She can sit and play unsupported for up to 20 minutes or so and we are working on her transitioning from lying to sitting, as she still can’t do this unassisted. She doesn’t crawl yet but can stretch and roll to reach what she wants.

It terms of cognitive development, we are seeing new things all the time. She will mimic various sounds and answer ‘uh-huh’ to pretty much any question you ask her. Yesterday she started playing peek-a-boo with a blanket which ended up with both me and her in fits of giggles, and she sometimes now shouts whenever Vicki or I wander out of her sight.

At nursery she has recently moved up from the baby room to the toddler room and next week we are visiting the school that Mia will eventually go to – exciting times!

I LOVE HER!!! She is so cute. I’m sorry to hear about her hospital stay, but I’m glad she’s fine now. It seems now, that Nathaniel’s older, he seems to bounce back faster. He was hospitalized 3 or 4 weeks ago and for the same reason and we almost lost him. We didn’t know how close we were till the following week when the on-call doctor called to schedule a follow up appointment with him. He’s better now, but it was scary. I just gotta say that I look forward to her updates because she and Nathaniel are so close in age….he just turned 21 months on the 8th. Hope to see her picture Halloween pictures.

Thanks Letty, I love reading your posts for the same reason!

That sounds like quite the ordeal you guys went through a few weeks back, here’s hoping that’s the worst behind you now.

Mia is very busy being adorable. It wouldn’t leave her much time to work on crawling. She will get there.
