The 7 month mark brought a bunch of exciting events for our Elsa. In honor of the milestone, we’ll share the top 7 highlights:
10 pounds: Elsa made it to double digits around July 4. She was cookin’ for quite a while, after we switched from Level 2 to Level 3 nipples. That seemed to help a lot. She started routinely eating 20 to 22 ounces a day, which is great for her, and her tummy started to fill out. (We recently hit another snag. It’s such a rollercoaster ride, this eating thing.)
Ear tubes: Elsa got ear tubes June 29. She had never passed her hearing test, so we weren’t sure what was up with her ears. They drained out a significant amount of fluid and put the tubes in, and she seems to be doing much better! They detected a mild hearing loss (she’s not picking up soft sounds, like water dripping, wind in the trees), but we didn’t know what to expect, so we were pleasantly surprised.
First airplane ride: The trip to Denver (then Nebraska) for a family reunion went way better than we were expecting. Insert plug for Frontier Airline, which was extremely accommodating to us, and all our gear. Elsa slept while boarding and was a great little baby during the flight.
First laugh: The turbulence on the plane elicited an unexpected response – Elsa’s first laugh! We were expecting tears, or a squeal, but instead, she did an adorable low chuckle. We were dying. The cutest sound we’ve ever heard.
First boat ride: We took a boat ride on our Nebraska vacation, and she seemed to like it! That means love of water is genetic. We were really hoping that was the case, as most of our family are fish and would prefer to live in the lake all summer long.
Sitting up: We’re shaky, don’t get me wrong, but Elsa’s trunk is strengthening and allowing her to sit up for brief moments of time. We provide heavy spotting, and she bops around a fair amount, but her core is learning how to hold her up. She seems to like the new vantage point on the world.
Peas, carrots and the dreaded apples: Elsa has started tasting a number of solid foods. She doesn’t seem to mind the savory stuff, but boy, not a fan of the apples! Just seems to tart for our sweetheart. We’re mixing in formula to ease her in to the tastes. That usually helps.
Here’s Elsa in her swimming suit – always breakin’ hearts, this one!

She’s completely adorable in those pics!! Loved reading about all of her progress and adventures and new skills. She’s really lucky you work so hard to expose her to all those experiences and work with her into new abilities. Nice job with the 7 theme!
Thanks for the update! She is getting so big and doing so much which is so great to see. That swimsuit picture is so adorable!
Way to go Elsa! She’s so adorable! Love her 🙂
Thank you for sharing this update Anitra. Your little Elsa is so precious, LOVE her in her swimsuit!! I’m so happy to hear how great she (and your family) is doing!
So many accomplishments in 7 months! What her mommy didn’t mention is that she is an absolute doll and is as sweet as they come! I love you, Elsa Lou!
You made an interesting observation. Elsa laughed when you expected her to cry. This might be coincidental, but Rochelle laughs in response to stress or pain. I recognize the difference between her happy laugh and stress laugh but it has been challenging to teach caregivers to respond appropriately. She is so adorable and oozes out all the love you pour into her.
