…and it seems like a lifetime already! Mia is thriving and has put on over 2lb since she was born, she is now hovering somewhere around the 6lb mark. She’s starting to hold her head up and thrilling us daily with the beginnings of smiles. Last week, for the first time, she was big enough to wear a little dress rather than the preemi sleep-suits sheβs been in up until now.
Every day at the moment feels like new and thrilling territory. Today Mia had her first vaccinations and later this month we are embarking on our first holiday as a family, which is very exciting for all of us. A month or so ago she passed her ‘car seat challenge’ and loves being out and about with mum in the car, especially since we fitted sun shades to keep the glare off her face and a head-rest mirror for her to see us up front from her rear facing seat in the back. Vicki is taking her to all sorts of mother and baby groups and both she and Mia have had to get used to being the centre of attention wherever they go.
Feeding too, is going well. We’ve had the NG tube out for over a month and Mia is taking ~500ml of expressed breast milk by bottle each day, with one formula feed in the evening – mainly to get her used to the taste for when we make that transition. Maybe worth mentioning, the only teats we’ve had any success with have been NUK latex ones. They were recommend to us by the midwives in the Special Care baby Unit and are orthodontically shaped to closely mimic the breastfeeding process. All I know is that they have worked really well for Mia where others haven’t, so definitely worth a try if your little one is struggling with the more conventional teats.

Ross- wow Mia is doing so well. 500ml is huge for her. I don’t think that Kendall took this amount until she was 6 months! Keep up the good news.
