Dylan Scooting Around
In the month of May Dylan had quite a set back, he broke his leg. This occurred when he was standing holding on to the couch and he did a funny little twist to the side and I caught him before he even fell. I really didn’t think that he could have possibly broken his leg but I took him to get checked out because he didn’t want to straighten his leg and would cry whenever he tried to move it. We found out that he had fractured his femur and was placed in a partial body cast for the next 4 weeks. At the hospital the ortho doc thought that maybe Dylan had a type of brittle bone disease but after a trip to the endocrinologist and numerous labs it was determined that he had a vitamin D deficiency. They suspected that his lack of weight bearing and low calcium attributed to the easy fracture and ruled out osteoporosis. He has since been on calcium supplements and had some leg braces made so that he can continue to weight bear and strengthen his bones.
When the cast came off Dylan was like a wet noodle. It was like starting all over again. Within the last month he has quickly regained his strength and is back to sitting, standing and holding the crawling position with a little help. We are so proud of him.
He also had his 16 month check up with the Pediatrician and has finally gained weight. He had been hovering around 14 lbs for the last 3-4 months and he weighed in at 15lbs 2.5oz and is 28″ long – that is a growth of 2″ in 2 months. This was very exciting news for us.
Another new accomplishment for Dylan is scooting. His therapist brought over a scooter board last week to try out. We both thought he may not be ready for this yet, but he was quick to prove us wrong. He very quickly figured out how to push off with his knees and scoot all over the house. I guess I can officially say Dylan is mobile!

You gotta love how the dog always wants to get in the video! Watch out, he’ll be all over the house in 3 months…
Hi! Was wondering where you bought the little scooter thing that Dylan is on…my Isabella is stuck in all fours and I think this would be great for her! You can email me at isabella101210@gmail.com. Thanks!!
